This week on my IG feed I shared five days of design inspiration boards for different parts of our homes. I saved my favorite for last on Friday – the kitchen. I think it’s true for most that our kitchens truly serve as the heart of our home. ❤ They are the space that we gather our friends and family for dinners, celebrations and drinks. Where our children (or in my case nieces and nephews) drop their bags after school and have a snack, chatting about their day. Where our friends stay until late in the evening, sometimes even dancing. Or where we prepare food for people that we love the most. My kitchen holds some of my most favorite memories. Whether big or small, old or new – I love the idea of our kitchens being functional AND pretty. I believe in investing in some versatile items that’ll last as long as you want them to. I’m sourcing some favorite items that are easy to mix into any style – and a few tips on how I like to incorporate these into my own space.
I love layering cutting boards under my cabinets for a fun design element – mix and match stone, wood and marble for a textured look. It’s super pretty and convenient for use too!
Bowls don’t have to be boring. Consider picking up a few white and wooden bowls as your basics – and find a little pop to add some color. These look pretty stacked on open shelving or even just to pull out for serve ware.
A large white pitcher is absolute an essential in every kitchen. It also doubles as a vase for fresh flowers during the spring and summer and looks pretty as a decor piece left out. I love this option from McGee & Co. It’s heavy and will last forever.
Grab a pretty cookbook stand that you can leave out on your counter – I see these all over the place. I go for a heavy black iron or the gold pictured above. Add your favorite cookbook – I’ve sourced a couple of mine here too. I like keeping mine next to my oven – not only are some of these covers gorgeous, it makes following that recipe easy holding the pages open.
Cloth napkins – although not always the easiest option are for sure the prettiest. It’s my favorite go to in dressing up a table setting. It makes just about anything feel a little bit fancier. I absolutely LOVE the organic washed cotton napkins at West Elm. I have them in a few different colors – they wash perfectly and a great price too!
Give me ALL the copper. Anything really. I can’t get enough of these – they make baking prettier. I love having them in my kitchen drawer. ❤
Cake stands aren’t just for cake anymore! I love using these in my kitchen as a center piece on the dining room table – usually with a potted plant on them. I also have a mini cake stand holding my soap next to the kitchen sink. I do also use them for cakes, pies and desserts when hosting too.
I usually lean towards real plants – but if you don’t have a green thumb, or just don’t want the hassle – I’ve found a few great faux options here and there. I love this faux mini potted fern from Pottery Barn. I don’t personally own this little guy – but have a few others from their botanical shop that look as good as the real thing.
Let’s talk about these adorable little wooden scrub brushes. I give them to everyone I know – super pretty and functional. The bristles are stiff and make for a great pot scrubber. I love that you can leave them out next to the sink too! I purchase mine in a two pack from amazon.
I hope these pretty essentials inspire you to pick up one or a few things to make your kitchen someplace you love to be. I hope your living and loving every single space in your home – if your not, I want to help you start here. Again, I really believe it doesn’t matter what “home” looks like. From mansion to studio apartment – and everything in between, your home should be a place of comfort and peace. A place to rest and lay down the day. As much as I love filling my space with pretty objects – it’s not the most important thing. It’s who you share it with. Happy Sunday! Thanks again for reading and sharing. ❤
